Catedral de Santa Ana

Construction of the twin-towered Santa Ana Cathedral began around 1500 and took four further centuries to complete. This means the cathedral inevitably displays a variety of architectural styles, including: Gothic, Renaissance and Neoclassic. A number of works of art are present within the cathedral for example a variety of statues, while there is even a Sacred Art Museum based in the cathedral’s south wing which features several paintings and artefacts.
Casa Museo de Colón

This elaborately designed house is named after explorer Christopher Colombus after it was reputed he stayed there on his way to the Americas in 1492. The house has various ornate aspects, such as the doorway, the lattice balconies and the carved wooden ceilings. The museum has been in the building since the mid-1950s and has a number of exhibits. The house itself was built in its current form around the year 1777.
Luz Castle
La Isleta
Built in 1541 Castillo de la Luz, or the Castle of Light, defended the harbour of the island for a good number of centuries. The Castle, formerly a fort from Castillian times, suffered much damage during the 1599 Dutch pirate invasion, although it was rebuilt in later years. The building is now used as an exhibition centre and holds various international and national events.
Playa de las Canteras
The Canteras beach is intensely urbanised and was in fact the first tourist area on the island. The beach is, of course, immensely popular and is even thought to be one of Spain’s best beaches. At one end of the beach is the recently built Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, designed to bring some style to a formerly neglected area.
Pueblo Canario
City Garden
The Canary Village is a set of traditional island houses and other buildings which come together to display an every day Canary village. The village is based in the City Garden area of town away from the hustle and bustle of the main parts. The village was dreamt up in the 1930s to educate tourists in the way of island culture and also features a square, shops, gates and an atrium.
Museo Canario

Dating from between the fifth century BC and the 15th century AD the Museum’s collection consists of a number of pre-hispanic objects and items. The museum itself came into existence in 1879 and aims to preserve, research and exhibit the collections it houses.
Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno
Triana
The Museum houses various art exhibits, usually of a more modern nature, and some works of those who have helped to create the borders of the Canary art scene. The centre aims to bring together the island’s own art with the influences of nearby Africa as well as Europe and the Americas. Despite its traditional appearance the centre is in fact modern and extravagant in its interior.
