Cathedral of PalmaCathedral of Palma
Carrer Palau Reial 29
07001 Palma
Majorca

Constructed on the site of an earlier Moorish mosque, Palma's Sa Seu Cathedral is one of Majorca’s most recognisable landmarks. According to legend, whilst sailing to Majorca in 1230 to recapture it from the Moors, Jaime I's fleet was struck by a major storm. He prayed to the Virgin Mary and promised that if he survived the storm he would build a church in her honour. Construction began in 1306 and has continued to this day, with certain controversial touches added by Gaudi in the 20th century.

Bellver Castle dates from the 14th century and due to its circular design is unique amongst Spanish castles. Originally constructed as a royal fortress, the castle is located above the city, offering superb views of the Bay of Palma that attract thousands of visitors every year. The castle was used as a military prison during the 18th and 19th centuries, and throughout the 1950s was used by the Fascists to imprison those who had opposed them during the Spanish Civil War. Today it is one of the island’s biggest tourist attractions.

Marineland is the only amusement park in the Balearic islands to feature performing dolphins and sea lions, making it one of the island’s most popular family attractions. In addition to regular performances by the dolphins, Marineland also features the largest shark collection in the whole of Europe, a parrot circus, aquariums, crocodiles and a reptile zoo with large snakes. Thanks to the park’s successful breeding program, many of Marineland’s stars, including dolphins and sea lions, were born here.
