Mar Menor
The little sea, or Mar Menor in Spanish, is a 170 square kilometre lake to the south east corner of Murcia. It is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by an island of sand which is 22 kilometres long. It has a number of sandy beaches which are popular among tourists and are picturesque to view. The salt water lagoon is the greatest natural lake in Spain.

Cartagena was historically a major seaport for the Carthaginians and the Romans and so the Naval Museum is a fitting feature of the city. It contains various maritime displays and pieces of art and has a room dedicated to submarine inventor Isaac Peral.
Mula Castle

This small town to the west of Murcia is home to the impressive Mula Castle which was used in days gone by for punishment as opposed to protection.
